A four-week live workshop + lab for writers interested in an approach to writing rooted in relationship with the living world
Humans have been given speech—which, in many cosmological accounts, marks us as holy. Speech has the capacity to repair and sustain our relationships with(in) the world. This workshop + lab is geared towards poets and writers interested in meeting these unprecedented times with an approach to writing rooted in relationship with the living world, thick with presences as well as histories.
In the first session, we investigate the nature of sound, fragment, and calling back wholeness. Then we approach art as knowledge created in relationship. With the next class, we speculate on the relationship between poetry and futures. In the final class, we will stay with the changing self, discussing form and revision strategies.
Each synchronous session includes live teaching, embodied experiments/exercises, and discussions. Readings include poems, essays and book excerpts, interviews. Writing invitations prompt you deeper into your writing practice. You have the option to share work in a discussion group and, sometimes, live.
Meeting across four Mondays in October, we collectively enact a laboratory for the practice of art that attends to the thick present through language.
Throughout our time together, we ground ourselves in our bodies, and pay attention to our capacity to stay with what is being activated.
